 9 AM Trip Itinerary:

  • 8:30 am: Check-in at the Corrals
  • 9:00 am: Horseback ride into the Absaroka Mountains
  • 11:30 am: Check-in at Yellowstone Raft Company (206 Park St. Gardiner, MT 59030)
  • 12:00 am: Scenic float trip down the Yellowstone River

Please allow 30 minutes to reach the corrals from the town of Gardiner and arrive 30 minutes prior to horse departure times to adjust your stirrups!  You may want to bring a snack to keep your energy levels up.

  • Please arrive 30 minutes prior to trip time to fill out paperwork and get geared up.
  • Plan for 5 hours round-trip.  All of our adventures take place outdoors; therefore, we cannot guarantee the trip length or size of rapids due to water flow.
  • Transportation to and from the river is provided.
  • The weather in Southwest Montana is ever-changing and often unpredictable. Please dress accordingly, water shoes and fleece are strongly recommended. 
  • Long Pants and closed-toed shoes are required for horseback.
  • Helmets and life jackets are always provided as well as wetsuits, splash jackets, and booties when needed!

Saddle and Paddle FAQ's

Dress according to the weather. We can provide cool-weather gear, but we recommend fleece.  Sunglasses and sunblock are recommended. Your feet will likely get wet in the raft, but we do provide water shoes.

Check-in: Please check in at Hell’s A Roarin’ Outfitters: 164 Crevice Road, Gardiner, Montana. You will need to leave the town of Gardiner at one hour before your departure time to check in.  If you have not paid, please check-in at  Paradise Adventure Company first. Please check with Yellowstone National Park to see if there are any road closures or construction delays.

What's on the menu?

Grilled steaks, pork chops, hot dogs, potatoes, several salads, cornbread, dessert and beverage. A vegetarian burger is available with prior request. You may bring alcoholic beverages if you wish.

  • The last cookout is August 10.
  • There is no cookout on July 4 or Fathers Day weekend.

FAQ: Cowboy Cookout with One Hour Ride

Riders must be ages 7 and up. If your child is petite, please be aware that they must be able to reach the stirrups to ride. We do our very best to accommodate everyone. There is no weight limit and each rider must be capable of riding their own horse. No double riders are allowed. If you any questions or concerns, please call us.
Please check-in at the Corrals at The Hells A Roarin' Outfitters Ranch, (164 Crevice Rd. Gardiner, MT) 30 minutes prior to your ride. Horseback Rides must be reserved to ensure there will be a horse waiting for you. Horses are limited on rides so be sure to call us or reserve online as soon as you know your desired ride date. *** PLEASE NOTE: THE CORRALS ARE A 30 MINUTE DRIVE FROM THE TOWN OF GARDINER. Please be aware this is a gravel road. There is RV parking available at the Wranglers.
Long pants and closed-toed shoes are required. You will be riding at a higher elevation and through the wilderness so we do recommend taking a light jacket or sweatshirt with you. Each saddle has a small saddle bag for a water bottle, a small camera, or your jacket. Do not wear fanny packs or a large camera on your body, you could hurt yourself if you fell off the horse and onto one of these items. The Horseback Rides do go in the rain unless the Wranglers deem the trails are unsafe. You will need to bring your own rain gear, the ranch does not supply clothing of any type. If you have concerns about bugs, you must put your bug spray before you leave for your ride or at your car. Do not spray bug spray around the horses.

About Our 2-Hour Horseback Rides

Saddle up for an unforgettable journey just outside Yellowstone’s North Entrance! Our 2-hour horseback rides offer a scenic and immersive experience through the breathtaking Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness. Ride along peaceful forest trails, across open mountain meadows, past sparkling creeks, and take in panoramic views of Montana’s iconic Big Sky Country.

Our gentle, well-trained horses and helpful wranglers make it easy for riders of all experience levels to feel comfortable and confident. You’ll get basic riding instruction before hitting the trail, and our guides are always happy to share fun facts about the area’s plants, animals, and landscapes along the way.

About Our 1-Hour Horseback Rides

Looking for a shorter ride that still captures the magic of Yellowstone Country? Our 1-hour guided horseback ride is the perfect introduction to Montana’s wild beauty. Located just outside the North Entrance of Yellowstone National Park, this scenic adventure takes you into the Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness, where you’ll ride through forests, mountain meadows, and along peaceful streams.

Ideal for first-time riders, families, and anyone short on time, this experience is open to guests ages 7 and up who can comfortably reach the stirrups. You’ll be matched with one of our friendly, well-trained horses and guided by experienced wranglers who will make sure you feel confident and safe in the saddle.
