About Our 1-Hour Horseback Rides

Looking for a shorter ride that still captures the magic of Yellowstone Country? Our 1-hour guided horseback ride is the perfect introduction to Montanaโ€™s wild beauty. Located just outside the North Entrance of Yellowstone National Park, this scenic adventure takes you into the Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness, where youโ€™ll ride through forests, mountain meadows, and along peaceful streams.

Ideal for first-time riders, families, and anyone short on time, this experience is open to guests ages 7 and up who can comfortably reach the stirrups. Youโ€™ll be matched with one of our friendly, well-trained horses and guided by experienced wranglers who will make sure you feel confident and safe in the saddle.

Know Before You Go

  • Check-in

At our office 1 hour in advance to fill out paperwork and drive to the corrals.

  • Transportation

Guests provide their own transportation to the corrals. Plan on a 30-minute drive on a gravel road.

  • What to Wear

Long pants and closed-toed shoes are required for horseback rides.

  • Trail Length

1-hour rides cover approximately 3-miles.

  • Who Can Ride

This trip is open to guests ages 7 and up.

Horseback Riding FAQs

Riders must be ages 7 and up. Please note that children must be able to reach the stirrups in order to ride. We do our best to accommodate all riders, so if you have specific questions or concerns, feel free to call us. There is no weight limit, and all abilities are welcome, but each rider must be capable of safely riding their own horse.
Both rides depart from a private ranch just outside Yellowstone National Parkโ€™s North Entrance. Our 1-hour trail ride takes you on a 3-mile journey through the Absaroka Wilderness, while our 2-hour trail ride spans approximately 5-miles with more scenic stops and photo ops.
Yes, reservations are required to ensure a horse is available for you. Horses are limited on each ride, so we recommend booking as early as possibleโ€”either online or by calling us directly.
Please check in 30 minutes prior to your ride at the corrals located at: Hells A Roarin' Outfitters Ranch, 164 Crevice Rd., Gardiner, MT Guests must check-in at the corrals 30-minutes before their ride and are responsible for their transportation. Depart Gardiner an hour in advance and plan on a scenic 30-minute drive on a gravel. RV parking is available at the Wrangler station.
We recommend wearing and/or bring the following: Long pants and closed-toed shoes (these are required for horseback rides) A light jacket or sweatshirt (the weather is unpredictable, and youโ€™ll be riding at higher elevation) Each saddle is equipped with a small saddle bag to carry a water bottle, light jacket, or small camera. Please avoid wearing fanny packs or large cameras on your body, as they could cause injury if you fall.
Yes, rides go out rain or shine unless the wranglers determine trail conditions are unsafe. Please bring your own rain gear, as the ranch does not supply clothing or protective wear.
Yesโ€”but please apply bug spray at your car or before you approach the horses. Do not spray bug spray near the horses, as it can startle or irritate them.
